In my psychotherapy practice in Riverdale, Toronto, I sometimes see little babies in my office while their first time parents figure out with me new emotional territory between each other and their newborn child. The adjustment to this big new responsibility can bring with it a variety of relationship imbalances which are normal and so worthwhile to work out with each other in a safe place. Newborns are welcome in my practice just as are their siblings, parents, grand and great grandparents. Room for all.
This Hold method is very useful for a new parent or for example if you are not a parent yourself but have been asked to hold a baby in distress who’s shrieking.
